A solemn silence, as of the
funeral mourners before
a long foreseen eulogy.
We all knew he would die.
But as the clock strikes
2am
my eyes are still awake,
chasing shadows in the night.

One of my cousins died recently, and (likely because I didn’t know him) I didn’t really feel any particular emotion about it. Even so, I found it hard to sleep that night.
